Last weekend we had a fourth Birthday Party for Grace, and the first party where we invited her friends! – not just family. After starting preschool at the end of last year she’s made so many sweet little friends that I thought it only more fun to have them over too. Lets just say our house (which is by no means big) was full. Thank goodness it was a nice day on Sunday so that the parents and kids could spill out onto the lawn and enjoy the weather. We had a bouncy house for the kids outside (thanks to my in-laws for organizing that one!) and with Eric on the grill we were able to have a BBQ outside. The kids ran around like crazy while the adults could enjoy a glass of wine on the deck. As I say, thank goodness for the nice weather (It’s been raining ever since!).
Being pregnant this time around, this party took me a lot longer to put together. I started a few weeks back making favors and ordering party decor. I made the kids a couple of favors each. A little bag (not featured) filled with toys, candy, bubbles, and knick knacks, most of which were found at Walmart. And then some little D.I.Y. animal jars filled with candies. I found the adorable idea on Pinterest, you can see how to make them here – such a cute idea for a little girl’s birthday, or they’d make a great baby shower gift idea too.
The cake is a homemade cake I’ve made for G’s birthday every year since she was born. It was taken from the blog Sweetapolita – one of my absolute favourites for cakes and sweet treat ideas. It’s a super simple recipe and really easy to follow. The cupcakes were bought by my lovely friend Ericka from Boston Frostin’, delicious locally made vanilla cupcakes with a sweet frosting. And after that I think the kids were all sugared out! – Ready for a few more bounces on the bounce house before home time. An exhausting but super fun day! Grace keeps asking when her next birthday party is, not for a whole year kiddo, we need that time to recover!
