Today’s post is a little different from the norm. But I’m talking about a very real issue that affects us all… stains. If you know me well you’ll know how finicky I am about clean clothes. I almost always have the washer and dryer on in our house, and honestly it’s not just because of Grace. One of my biggest stain gripes in life is that of lipstick. As you know, I love wearing a nice bold lip colour, but I don’t love it so much when I get it on my clothes. This tends to happen a lot when trying to do two or three outfit posts in a row and in a hurry – real life truth. Like my face in the below pic?! – I wish I could insert the laughing-crying emoji <here>.
My go-to number one stain removing product is Shout® Trigger Triple-Acting Stain Remover. And I’m not just saying that. In fact, although I am working with Shout® on this post, when they asked me to purchase the product, I already had two at home. I use this daily for stains and I haven’t found a better product yet. But having said that, when I do need to buy, I always purchase from somewhere where I know I’m going to get the most competitive price, such as Walmart.
Side note: When trying to get the shot above, some guy out of nowhere came right up behind me and took the Shout® Trigger Triple-Acting Stain Remover off the shelf we’d placed nice and strategically for the photo… I can’t tell you how much Eric and I laughed… I think I was actually crying, but hey just goes to show it’s not just me who likes it!
So, I wanted to share with you some of my best tips and tricks for getting out those tough stains, like red lipstick on a white top.
1. First and foremost (of course) always check the garments label before applying any kind of stain remover and/or washing. Retailers are usually generous in supplying the consumer with the proper care instructions, and they’re important to note before treating.
2. Then, apply the stain remover ASAP! I can’t stress this enough. A quickly tended to stain makes all difference and is much easier to get out than a stain that’s sat on the fabric for any length of time.
3. If your clothing item says ‘wash in cold water’ or ‘hand wash’ it might mean that the dyes in the garment aren’t colourfast. In order to test, soak an inconspicuous part of the clothing in warm water with several squirts of the Shout® Trigger Triple-Acting Stain Remover for 1-2 minutes then blot dry. If the colour does not run or change and does not come off on the paper towel, then Shout® Trigger Triple-Acting Stain Remover should be safe to use on your clothing.
4. When it comes to washing. The hotter the water the cleaner the wash. A hot setting will work best for heavily soiled clothes and whites. A cooler setting is best for almost everything else. A cold setting is best for bright colours and lightly soiled items. But again, check the care instructions first to be safe.
And voila! Shout® Trigger Triple-Acting Stain Remover successfully removed my lipstick stain! It’s honestly a true Peterson household favourite, and one that will be in my laundry closet for years to come.
