Have you ever attended an event and not been sure what the dress code is? It’s happened to me many times. Sometimes you get it right, sometimes you get it wrong. And with the holiday season in full swing more and more of these events seem to keep popping up. Well, I thought I’d offer a little advice, although my plan isn’t fool proof it usually keeps me from being embarrassingly overdressed (I think we’ve all been there) or worse, underdressed. So, these are my tips.
1) First and foremost, wear heels. You can’t go wrong with heels. They elongate your legs and classy up an outfit .Heels will always keep things a little more formal.
2) Wear trousers. For this outfit post I’m wearing jeans, but if you’re going to wear jeans don’t wear the blue distressed boyfriend kind. Wear skinny jeans or at least a straight leg. I wore black. Black is more of a formal colour, but denim is in essence casual, therefore I’m mixing the two up making my outfit causal and formal.
3) Add a cardigan. The cardigan I’m wearing would definitely be labelled casual if a label was needed. But the final addition to my outfit formals it up, which leads me to my final point…
4) Add a formal accessory. This could be a fur collar like the one I’m wearing or maybe add a bit of bling with a statement necklace.
Mixing formal pieces with informal pieces keeps your outfit casual yet dressy, the perfect mix for an event where you’re not quite sure what the dress code is. Hope you found these tips helpful. From my own experience, this usually works! xo
