As I mentioned in a previous post, Grace was extremely anxious about standing outside on solid ground. So, today I decided we should have a second attempt. If we’re going to enjoy the warmer months, then Grace needs get used to a bit of fresh air and uneven terrain, especially as we will be spending many days in the near future on the beach. Given that it was a beautiful morning, I thought it might be an idea to see how she felt about grass (her first introduction). Although it was a little daunting at first, she began to realize that it really wasn’t that bad, and actually started to enjoy the unfamiliar experience. She realized that she liked the feel of the grass and earth as she pulled at the leafy greens and dug her little fingers into the dirt. It brought back some of my own childhood memories. I would regularly play in a muddy patch of the garden, loving the feel of the wet soil in my hands… oh how times have changed!
Anyhow, we brought Bella (our dog) along too, because Grace has a secret obsession with Bella, and I thought it might ease things, which it did. Grace loved throwing the ball to Bella and watching her play with intent little eyes. Needless to say, Bella does not feel so mutually affectionate. Not that she is aggressive towards Grace, she’s actually very gentle with her. She is just wary of Grace’s obsessive need to pull and tug at her fur. I can’t blame her. But the two will, in time, be best friends, I’m sure.
